For Visit Liverpool
Sometimes when you visit a new city you want to get right in there and experience it like the locals do.
Liverpool has some of the best tourist attractions in the world, covering everything from the Beatles to our maritime heritage and music events unlike any others – but where do the locals hang out? Where are the hidden gems for something to eat or the best places to head for a night out?
To find out where all the best spots are, we asked local blogger Sarah, (my_brother_sarah on Instagram), to give us all her top tips on how to do Liverpool like a local for the weekend. This is Liverpool, her way.

Hi i’m Sarah. A Liverpool City Centre dweller. Hilarious real-lifestyle blogger. Mum to scooter sensation, Sonny.
BREAKFAST
We love to head down to Rhubarb on Lark Lane, it’s a cute bar and cosy restaurant. It has THE best full English in Liverpool AND serves ale from about 9.30am!! No better way to start the day in my opinion!
MORNING ACTIVITY
I’d have a little mooch around Larks and Gasp on Lark Lane, the best vintage shops in the city! Me and Sonny pick up anything from Lost Plots cards, crystals, jokes, vases, clothes and furniture in these shops.
Then we’d go for a cute little bike ride through the Festival Gardens which is right next to St Michaels train station. The ponds are full of lily pads, which are my favourite thing in the entire world! Sometimes I just go there on my own to look at them.. no lie!
From there, cycle along the prom to New Bird Skatepark in the Baltic Triangle. A boss little spot to fall over and hurt yourself, and always full of lovely people to make mates with. Then we’d nip along to Lost Art above The Merchant on Slater Street to grab some boss matching mum and son T-shirts.
LUNCH
For lunch, head up-to The Quarter on Falkner Street. It’s a boss little spot in the Georgian Quarter to sit outside in the sunshine on the cobbled streets and share a pizza.
AFTERNOON ACTIVITY
After lunch, run over to Zap Graffiti, just off Roscoe Street, Liverpool’s unique graffiti focused venue. They work to engage people of all ages with the positive art form of graffiti. We buy cans of spray paint from their shop and they let us get creative on the wall round the back. You can even have lessons…we have and they’re boss!
EVENING MEAL
You’ve got to head over to Duke Street Food & Drink Market for something to eat. Deffo get on the Loaded Falafel from Indigo Greens. There’s still at least 20 dishes I’m dying to try. Dogs and children are welcome too, which is amazing!
EVENING ACTIVITY
In the evening we love going to The Woolton Picture House in Woolton Village just out of town. It’s an original 1920’s one screen cinema. The seats don’t recline, but they do have a cute little interval where these big velvet curtains come across the screen and a lady sells ice cream ❤️.
Day 2
BREAKFAST
Ryde, a super cute little cafe & bike repair shop in the Baltic Triangle is a great place to head for breakfast. Their bagels are amazing but my absolute favourite thing to get is the black pudding and scrambled eggs.
MORNING ACTIVITY
Head into town for a mooch around Root Houseplants at the Bluecoat on School Lane. It’s a contemporary houseplant shop stocking unique, healthy and affordable plant babies. Also, when you buy a plant, the cuties email you a little pdf telling you how to love it properly!
LUNCH
The Pen Factory on Hope Street is a great place to head for boss food, gorgeous wine and the best bog graffiti in town! The beer board is a favourite of mine too.
AFTERNOON ACTIVITY
If you fancy a little pamper session, pop to Riff Raff hair on Picton Road for boss haircuts and fab nails. Top the afternoon off by heading for a little walk around Princes Park, a Grade II historic park right next to Sefton Park. There are loads of historical features, including a Donkey’s Grave and a fishing lake!
EVENING MEAL
We love heading over to Love and Rockets on Lark Lane for marmalade or monster munch pizza. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! Follow it up with a swifty in Que Pasa’s beer garden, it’s my fave sun trap for an after work drink on a Friday night.
EVENING ACTIVITY
Paint the town!!
I love doing a little pub crawl around Hope Street and the Georgian Quarter. Start with a pint in the War Room in Ye Cracke (John Lennon’s old boozer) then to The Belvedere Arms in Sugnall Street for gin and inevitable chats with strangers by the fire.
Next, head to Peter Kavanagh’s on Egerton Street for more lager and a look at all the wonders hanging from the ceiling. The Caledonia on Caledonia Street is also a great place to stop for a bit of live music; the fabulous Nick Ellis plays there most weeks. Then I’d top the night off with a dance on the tables to one of the fab DJ’s in Buyers Club on Hardman Street.
If you’re around on Sunday then i’d recommend Sunday Lunch at Frederiks on Hope Street. They’re always busy because it’s so good but they are absolute angels at squeezing you in – especially if you’re like me and you’ve arranged to meet your 90 year old grandad there and forgot to ring up..
